Is your new iPad getting unusually hot?

101.8 f!

My new hotpad, er, ipad is currently 101.8 according to my infrared thermometer. Call me thin-skinned, but between the discomfort and reading all the suggestions for not making full use of all the very plusses we paid for, I find the joy has soured. ON THE OTHER HAND (no pun intended), I found a work-around that just might restore the joy: it's called an "icepad", and I'm crossing my fingers. Talked to the sales VP to confirm it's what I need, that it fits the new ipad, etc., and he assures me I'll see/feel a remarkable improvement. Here's the link if anyone's interested. And, while I guess this might sound like a sales/snow job, it isn't. I was just so glad to find it after spending a looong time googling. You can imagine my poor, burning hands and lap are glad too! http://thermapak.com/products.html/:eek:

I noticed something last night. I have a 32G WiFi. The charging plug became warm. The iPad was in sleep mode. I got down to 20% battery, and started charging. It took a little over three hours to fully charge. I did have it plugged into a surge protector with other things charging, but the charger getting warm? It was only warm the first hour of charging, but a little concerned.

I've been using my 2nd new iPad for a few hours now, and this one isn't getting warm or hot either. Hopefully it will continue this way. :)

Sent from my LTE iPad using Tapatalk HD.

I really wanted to buy the new ipad but I'm now reluctant after reading people's comments about the heat issues. Does it really get that warm? Does it become uncomfortable to hold?

Not at all... Don't let it deter you form purchasing one. I almost didn't get one because of the alleged heating issues.

After the initial setup, the iPad will never get past a lukewarm feeling.

No it does not. I have used my new iPad for hours of gaming and it stays cooler than a laptop or phone. Don't forget that the temperatures quoted in many of the articles are an iPad that is charging and running at full load with no heat sink. The mere act of you holding it will dissipate the heat. Mine never gets more than comfortably warm.

Also don't forget a lot of people are trolling because they can't find anything else bad to say about the new iPad.

I have had an Android tablet for 9 months and love the new iPad. Its worth every penny. Its like trading up from a used Ford Escort to a new BMW.

I've been using my new iPad much more than I used my iPad 1, and have not experienced any heat issues ever. It's been totally worth the upgrade; I'd do it all over again!

The charger on my ipad2 got warm also, especially if I was charging for a long period of time.

Mine is in an Incase folding leather case so I don't notice if it even does get hot, but I'm not sensing heat coming out of anywhere any more than my iPad 2 in the same case. I'm not an LTE area though. Only 3G ("4G") AT&T and wifi.

Ok, I'm convinced. I'll get the new ipad. I didn't really need a lot of convinving because I really want it :D and apart from the heat issues, it seems like the best tablet.

luv all my iPads, but YES it really is getting hot

i had hoped the stories were overblown, but it's not just warm, but uncomfortably hot. i was just reading email and articles for about an hour, not playing my usual games (inifinity blade, etc), and i noticed it was getting a bit too warm to hold so i turned it off. the heat dissipated fairly quickly. but it was, in fact, hot enough to not want to hold it any longer.

this one is wifi only. don't have a case yet. holding it bare metal.

maybe there was a bad batch with real battery probs. i'll be returning this one for a replacement (sigh).

Good choice, Lara. You will really like the new iPad and I doubt you'll have any heating issues with it. If you did, Apple will gladly exchange it for you. :)
