iPad 2 only requires 800MB, iPad Mini Retina require 6.9GB?

Why the super huge discrepancy between my Ipad 2 and iPad Mini Retina? The former requires just 800MB free space, the latter requires a whooping 6.9GB (had to delete more than half the things as my Mini is 16GB with 12GB available to the user).

Why the super huge discrepancy between my Ipad 2 and iPad Mini Retina? The former requires just 800MB free space, the latter requires a whooping 6.9GB (had to delete more than half the things as my Mini is 16GB with 12GB available to the user).

My guess is that there were a lot of features that they couldn't put on the iPad 2 due to hardware limitations.
