Increasing system volume for notifications - anyone try this??

so i was researching ways to increase the system volume and came across this write up. it appears that some people get their notifications increased and some dont. can anyone here comment on this to verify? i tried it, but increasing the values to 25 from .83, i guess they seem a little louder.....but im not sure.
