jailbreaking iphone 2g questions

I have owned an iphone 3gs before but I decided to sell it and renew my contract with a blackberry. I still wanted the iphone for games and fun so I bought a 2g from ebay. My qustion is how different is jailbreaking a 2g than 3gs?

For the 3gs I used blackra1n. I had version 3.1.2 firmware. Do I just upgrade my 2g to 3.1.2 and blackrain jb it? I remember reading that the 3gs was not allowed to he unlocked. Can I unlock the 2g? I still want to use my blackberry data plan on the iphone and I heard unlocking it makes it so att doesn't switch my plans according to the device the sim is in.

do see why not, guy at work has 3.1.2 2g and blackra1n ed it and it works just fine jb.
