Alert tones issue

Anyone noticing when connected to wifi that there not sometimes not getting alert sounds when receiving an email or text?

I've noticed it as of late with my iPad Pro, but not via my iPhone. Keep in mind, however, that if the screen is lit, you may or may not receive an alert tone.
