Why not use iOS devices as touch bars?

It seems to me that Apple's investment in Touch Bar technology is going to waste with the new keyboards for the iMac. What I think might be coming is the transfer of that interface to your favourite iOS device that you can place between your monitor and your keyboard. You could have all your Touch Bars and buttons features on your iPad or iPhone. Does this sound reasonable, or even obvious?
