If a message is read on one phone on the other persons phone does it give a time

I had a friends phone and read the text message I sent them and then on my phone it said read and the time. Does it say anything on their phone?

This is a feature in iMessage if I'm not mistaken, so the other person would also have to have iMessage with the feature enabled.
