Plan for occassional use?

Hi,

I have an old now off-contract iPhone 4 (formerly AT&T) that I use as a music player at the gym and such. Is it possible to get a US service that has a defined number of minutes/mBytes instead of a monthly plan. I would need to the minutes/MBytes to last a long time, say a year, since I would only use this device on the carriers network infrequently. Most of time I use it on Wifi.

I am hoping I can get something like the SIM cards I have from Europe that still work after 3 years or so.
