"Share my location"

Made the switch to iOS when i got my new XS Max so im still learning stuff, but i have a question.

Share my location, which is found under APPLE ID area which has all your personal info. What is this used for?

If anything i want to be able to track my iphone if lost but i also know via FIND MY FRIENDS you can share your location with friends but you have to accept each other and what not?

could this be used in any other app like imessages?

Yes, Share My Location also works in iMessage.
In iMessage in any conversation, tap the upper side of the screen where the profile photo is, then tap the (i) and Share My Location.
