Are there any smart home devices that can control existing non-smart devices?

I'm looking for devices for my parents that will allow them to remotely close the garage door, turn off the oven/stove, lock the door, turn off the heat etc., without getting new appliances like a new GE oven or something. Are there any devices that can control their existing non-smart devices?

Off the top of my head, I kinda sorta recall Chamberlain has an accessory for existing garage door openers (myq?).

Simple Wi-Fi plugs could help with some stuff.
