How do I delete photos on my Iphone 4

All my photos (several thousand) from my MacPro were transferred to my Iphone 4 - I guess via Cloud. How can I delete them on my Iphone but leave them on my Mac?
I can select the photos on my Iphone but the trash bin is not active so I cannot delete.

1. Select the Photos app.
2. Select "Albums".
3. Select "All Photos".
4. Tap on "Select".
5. Select each photo you want to delete.
6. Tap on the Trashbin icon to delete.
