I've changed my Apple ID, why hasn't iCloud updated the new email?

I can no longer access my old email address so have to use a new one. Trying to change all my contacts is a nightmare but I thought that once I'd changed my Apple ID iTunes and iCloud would have recognised the new one.

How can I do this?

If you had ONE Apple ID that was also used for iCloud then yes, when you change it, the effects should be universal, however, if you had a separate Apple ID that was used for iCloud then you will have to login in to iCloud with that particular Apple ID.

You will also need to change it in iMessage, Facetime, and Game Center. Game Center may be optional.

Thanks for your reply. The ID was the same so it should have updated, I'll just have to find another way.
