Why is there a lock symbol next to my battery in top right corner?

I phone 5s. All the sudden there is a lock symbol to the left of my battery bar on top right corner. Why is it on there and how do I get it off?

Welcome to iMore! You have rotation lock on. To turn it off, slide up from the bottom of the screen to open control center and then tap on the button that looks like a pad lock with a rotating circle around it.
