Problems with icloud drive sync for Excel

I have Excel documents (small personal ones: budget/travel etc: nothing too complicated) in iCloud Drive. I use a MacBookAir, iPad Mini with both wifi and cellular, and iPhone 6, all with up-to-date software updates.
I can open and alter documents on all 3 devices BUT they do not synch BACK from ipad mini/iphone 6 to the MacBookAir: they sync beautifully from the MacBook Air to the IOS8 devices, but not vice versa.
What am I doing incorrectly?

Nothing. Try rebooting your i-Devices or go to Settings - General - Reset and then select "Reset Network Settings". You can also try signing out of iCloud on those devices and then signing back in.
