How to change from iphone 5 to iphone 6

My mum just got a new Iphone 6 (not iphone 6 plus) and I get her old iphone 5. We got told to turn off find my iphone but my mum thinks there was something to do turn off before we reset and get my new phone to have my contacts. She said better safe than sorry so here I am asking you this question. She has a list here with this; 1. Back up 2. turn off? 3. setting- Factory settings. Please I really need my phone for school. Now that my old one has become useless. btw my old phone was a samsung... if that helps

Beat thing to do is
1. Take a backup whit iTunes
2. Do a factory reset in settings, erase all content and settings.

After that the phone is as new and you can start it up and use as your own phone.
