.How do I stop the UPLOADING of iphoto from my MAc to my iphone5S ?

I have the oposite problem from the one answered previously. My iphoto is UPLOADING all of the stored photos from iphoto on my MAC to my iphone5S. Therefore, my iphone5S storage is full, and my iphone will not let me delete them. WHat should I do to free up my iphone storage?
