Will deleted iPad photos REMAIN on DESKTOP iMac computer???

[iMore Question]

I need to clear space on my iPad to make room for photos from a special vacation coming up. Don't want to lose originals on my iMac in iPhoto!!! I know they'll be deleted from PhotoStream but will they also be deleted from my computer or WILL THEY BE SAFE????
