using verizon email account on iphone5s

Can't seem to get my Verizon email account to sync with my iphone 5s. The mail will download on phone fine, but when I delete on phone it still stays in the account on laptop and visaversa. Works fine with a gmail account, but not the Verizon one. Any help?

Is it possible that the problem lies with Verizon and not necessarily your devices?
