So yeah, it was free and unopened, brand new. I have never had one of these but I've used them, if that makes sense to anyone... Anyway, having never owned one I've never set one up. I connected the battery terminals and plugged it in, but it won't stop beeping. Is this normal or did I fubar something? I know my Rocky Mountains aren't the bluest in the fridge and stuff, but I don't think I screwed anything up here.

With any UPS I've used, beeping either indicated a loss of power, low power, or in some cases extremely "dirty" electricity.

Hmmm, I'll plug it in and not turn it on, then turn it on tomorrow and see what happens. I hope it works, this is too good to be a freebie that is broken.

I plugged it into a different outlet overnight and turned it on just now and it won't stop beeping. It's not really beeping, just one long continuous beep. For the life of me, I have no idea what that means.

You can call APC and give them the unit serial number and battery number. If you bought it new it could be a low battery indicator where the battery light would also light up. Make sure you have the terminals hooked up although 1 of them should have already. They can determine what is wrong and either send you a new one or a new battery if bad.

I see a lot of these. Try reconnecting the battery and plug it in w/o turning it on for a few hours. then turn it on if it still does it the battery is faulty. I have stopped buying APC power UPS b/c they don't last, other brands are much more reliable. If you are looking for one I would look into an Eaton or MGE. Hope it works out though.

It's a faulty battery. Either faulty, or it sat so long without being charged that it is now worthless. We found the receipt. 2006. Doh!

Since it is that old you can still go to apc.com and buy a battery if they still have one for that model or send them the receipt, They might send you an updated model.

Where did you get it where you now say you found the receipt where you got it in 2006 but the title says "You just got it free today"?? Confused.
