icloud backup method for whatsapp

Can anyone tell me how icloud takes backup of whatsapp chats?Is it real time back up or daily on a certain time?

iCloud if I am not mistaken backs up once a day when charging unless it's manually done. I don't believe it's in real time.

I have another confusion....if you can help....Does icloud back up the real time chat like when 2 people are chatting at any given time?

OR

Does Icloud back up all the existing chat once a day from the current chat going

OR

Does icloud back up only those chats that has been backed up manually/automatically by whatsapp backup process??
