Before proceeding, it is highly recommended to take a moment to back up the Contacts first with iTunes or iCloud.

1. Open Address Book on Mac and select Command A. This will select all contacts to delete

2. You can also go to iCloud.com. Choose contacts. Ctrl A to select all contacts and delete.

If it's another service you will have to remove them from their, example, gmail.com.. Then turn sync off and back on to populate new list of contacts.

Additionally, you can do the following from your iOS device:

1. Go to Setting->Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then select the email service associated with the contacts you want to delete.
2. Slide the lever to the left to disable sync.
3. When prompted with "What would you like to do with the previously synced ____ contacts on your iPhone?", select "Delete From My Phone".
