I've just read the upcoming Apple watch including the new 'sports' version will not have gps tracking.

I do not understand that decision at all. I was looking forward to getting one but without that it's more like an expensive toy.

I was hoping it was actually going to be useful!

PS I am an Apple fan!

They are trying to get every last drop of battery life from a watch designed to be paired with a phone that contains a gps. Why would they add a gps?

Agreed GPS eats battery and you only need one device with it on if they are connected.

I can see putting a gps in the watch so you don't have to carry the phone for a run, but battery life would make people cry...

I have a Garmin smart watch as well as my Watch and when I turn the GPS on my Garmin the battery gets KILLED. Unless Apple uses their special magic sauce to make the GPS and battery last then it is not gonna happen

As it is if you track a LONG workout using the HR sensors the battery takes a serious hit. Imagine how bad that would be if you also had a GPS radio sucking power
