Those were my same thoughts also. I have a Google Home. I only use it for music to put me to sleep.
Listening to my music is best left for my Sonos set up.

Yep, US only for the time being. Hopefully that changes for wherever you are soon. The sole reason I left Apple Music a few years back was lack of Echo support and the sole reason I came back to Apple Music was the addition of Echo Support combined with all of my Apple devices.

If your main concern is maximum sound quality in a single room stick with the HomePod. The quality on the Echo is better than any of the other Echo devices but doesn’t come close to competing with the HomePod. Even a set of Echos won’t give you the depth of sound that a HomePod will.
