Awesome news, I’m sure. Now it’ll be interesting to see how many people will play Music in their Echo devices.

Those were my same thoughts also. I have a Google Home. I only use it for music to put me to sleep.
Listening to my music is best left for my Sonos set up.

Is this the initial deathknell for the HomePod? Or will Apple introduce a new HomePod that is at least $100 less expensive?

Now with options. Would you recommend the 1X HomePod or a set of Echos for less?

If your main concern is maximum sound quality in a single room stick with the HomePod. The quality on the Echo is better than any of the other Echo devices but doesn’t come close to competing with the HomePod. Even a set of Echos won’t give you the depth of sound that a HomePod will.
