I've tried a few different ones, but my favourite is the combo of a Smart Cover and Speck Smartshell. The magnet on the back to hold the cover in place is so simple yet works well.

I've decided that I'm going to use protection on my iPad 4. I really like the Apple Smart case but as has been mentioned, I wish that it came in black (non-leather). I might just go with the dark grey. Take it off around the house (like the natural feel) then slide it on when I take it out. Do these cases leave any marks on the iPad?

I still love my Smart Cover the best (the real thing, not the cheap eBay knockoffs). I don't think any other manufacturer makes anything that's nearly as useful and good looking. For the back, I just slap on a Caudabe back cover. I've got the one in frost. Feels great and I can barely even tell it's there. Pretty good deal on Amazon at the moment it seems.
