Using an itunes card while having a credit card linked

my itunes account has a credit card linked but how can i use an itunes card and not have my linked credit card charged?

Just redeem the iTunes card in your iTunes and that money will be debited for purchases.

Your credit card would only be charged if you purchased more than your store credit balance.
