My husband is still using an iPhone 8. He is/was convinced from the very beginning that the touch id button would wear out... so he set up touch id via assistive touch. It works but seems clunky to me. LOL!

Isn't that just a button? It doesn't use fingerprint.

Using the AssistiveTouch button will cut down on the wear and tear of the home button. And that can be important on older devices.

For the most part it is. But there's still quite a few still using it, including my Wife on her iPhone SE 3rd generation.
