I see the benefit and can see Apple wants a solid band around the iphone. I’ve had my iPhone 14 PM for 7 weeks. I have yet to plug a cable into it.
Not next year but an iPhone Pro is coming that will have only speaker and mic openings. To the best of my knowledge a water blocking but not sound wave blocking membrane along with air pressure is used to keep speaker and mic openings. That’s the last potential opening (though some soft of air release is needed).
