Not getting the menu on screen

I am not technological able at all and am having trouble with my apple TV. I cannot access the menu and what is coming up instead is settings and computers. What am I doing wrong. I have purchase a series and cannot access it. Last night when I finally managed some how to find the menu it took 40 minutes to download one episode and then stopped 5 minutes before the end. Very frustrating.

If you hold in the menu button on your controller, it should take you back to the main screen.
