iMac running hotter than usual
My iMac (27", Late 2009, running OS X El Capitan 10.11.2) is running hotter than usual. I launched the Activity Monitor and I noticed that UserEventAgent, launchd, and mds_stores were using a lot more CPU power than usual.
Here's the interesting part: when I eject my external hard drive, these three processes drop back to normal CPU usage and the Mac's temperature quickly drops back to normal. If I re-mount the external hard drive, the processes get busy again and the iMac's temperature begins to rise.
This just started today, and I haven't installed any new applications or done anything else that I can think of that might be causing this.
I've rebooted, but the problem persists.
Any idea what I should try next?
