Is there an app that will lock your phone into another app?

We will let our young grand children look and play with an app on our phones but they will randomly hit buttons and eventually move to another app we don't want them using, like mail or contacts or something they will screw up. So my question is, is there an app that will lock the phone into a specific app and not let the phone go to anything else without a password or something? Does something like this exist? Is it even possible without jailbreaking? I would love to know.
