how do you find the screen protector and buttons on the phone to work in the case? Seems like all the tempered screen protectors these days don't go all the way to the edge leaving a rather unsightly gap between it and case which looks like crap and catches every piece of lint it can find

Yeah, that was an issue for a while. And not with just the larger iPhones. I think when the design changed due to the Touch ID, they had issues with the protective screen lying flush with the phone's screen. Then along came the curved edges. LOL Most I know using the Defender today on the iPhones don't seem to have those issues anymore. Some do though. Fortunately, Otter has great customer service and will make it right.
