When in DFU mode, iTunes will detect the device in "recovery", however, you will not see anything displayed on the screen. If you do, the device is NOT in DFU mode.

Then it is possible that you also restored the problem. Erase all contents and settings and set it up as new.

I fixed the problem. What I did was, I turned off iMessage and I turned it back on. Then I deleted the conversation that was causing the problem. Presto!
