Has anyone's contacts become mixed up when they change phones?

Contacts are all mixed up - work contacts and personal contacts are showing as one - and phone numbers and email addresses for different people are under the one contact - please help!! there are 100's of contacts!

Welcome to iMore! Change which phones? iPhone to iPhone? Android to iPhone? Do you have groups set up?
Contacts are usually in alphabetical order in the iPhone contacts. All the numbers, email addresses and other info for each contact is on their contact card.
Are you missing contacts?
To separate work from personal, you will need to set up groups.

There's also a few apps that may work for creating groups. I use SA Contacts.

HI, thanks for the details I will try that - we changed over from an iPhone 5 - iPhone 6. When you go into some of the contacts there is an email for that person but the phone number for someone else (with the same first name). There is also one contact with 2 different phone numbers but also a completely different email address? Also in whatsapp the contact details are carrying across from contacts and have the right picture but different name?
