I have one iTunes account that I have used for our family that has several devices associated to it. A couple of shuffles, and iPod, iTouch, and iPad2.

Well, I bought my wife an iPhone 4S yesterday and got it set up using the same apple id as all the others. There are no real issues, but I was wondering since now the iPad2 and her iPhone are on iCloud, I guess they are linked, which is fine. But now I realize that they can't message back and forth to each other of communicate via Facetime.

Should I have set her iPhone up on a different or new apple id?

and if so

Could her iPhone still be tied to our existing family account that has all our songs, movies, apps, etc on it without having to repurchase them?

Thanks and sorry if this isnt the proper place to post this question.

iMessage and FaceTime are not necessarily tied to the Apple ID. You can go into settings and select which addresses should be associated with iMessage and FaceTime. Just add or delete whichever addresses you like.
