Apple symbol as a shortcut

You cannot have a single character as a shortcut on iOS 8. You also cannot have a single character and a space? I used the apple symbol and a period which I can delete later.

It's related to Rene's blog article. And not true...  I have a shortcut set up and it yields the Apple logo only...
