I have always went with the Apple OEM Leather case and never had a reason to switch to something else.

But, I did get a chance to demo a Case Mate barley there leather case and was impress with the quality for the money and would be a great alternative to the Apple OEM version for those on a budget.

Found a vynl Apple logo to go over the cutout. Looks awesome now with the black and white.

Anyone with the D-Brand skin (on just the back, not the sides) also use the Apple leather case? I switch back and forth between the Apple leather and the Rhino Shield Crashguard NX bumper so there are times when I have a case covering the back. I’m wondering how/if the skin impacts the fit of the leather case.

Not hard at all. They provide videos on how to apply it in sections and it's very forgiving where if it's a little off you can peel it back the section to realign it with no issues.

Gotcha.

Did it provide any kind of extra grip? I hear some people say the phone is just as slick with the skin on? Yours was a D-Brand skin?

Yeah I don't think it provides extra grip. It's about the same. I just use the back skin and not along the metal frame and the frame is where I mainly grip the device. I mainly go with skins because I don't like using cases that often so the fingerprints on the glass drive me crazy.
