It's written a little strangely, what the OP meant was the bottom corner of your home screen ABOVE your docked icons (basically on level with the dots representing what home screen you are on)

This thread is awesome and should be stickied!! I've had my iPhone since December and I found 5-8 tips I was clueless of and immediately began using!! Such as the scrolling directly to top when viewing a long web page. Thanks a million for posting this!!
