iPhone X and Android, who is carrying both?

Sure, but isn't this a problem if it limits who you can communicate with, or restricts how you communicate with them?

    Switching to iPhone X....... Maybe

I agree with you, and in fact this was my point. Security is about a lot of things, including but not limited to software updates. And even when it comes to software updates, the approaches of iOS and Android and different and it's not as simple as saying one is better than the other.

    Switching to iPhone X....... Maybe

I am surprised to see this opinion still appearing in 2018, and even more surprising to see it on an Apple forum. Apple, and the rest of the world, realised that it's not true twenty years ago. Both MacOS and iOS are based on Darwin, which in turn is based on BSD UNIX - all open source operating...

    Switching to iPhone X....... Maybe

I have good news! You don't need iMessage or Facetime to communicate with Apple users. Have you heard of, for example: - Telephone calls - SMS - WhatsApp - Skype - Facebook Messenger - Email All of these work on iPhones! It's worth checking them out if you know someone who is not an Apple user.

iPhone X and Android, who is carrying both?

If iMessage and SMS are so unsatisfactory, why not switch to, for example, WhatsApp? Or one of the many other choices on the market? Most of them are free and the ones I have tried all work fine. I appreciate that means both parties installing WhatsApp, but thanks to the "App Store", that's not...

So much for the X being a "flop"

No. You completely misunderstood my post. Please read posts before commenting on them. Someone (to save embarrassment, I won't say who) made the claim: "I won't be going back to Android, ever. I'd rather just go without a phone at all." Quoting exactly and only that text, I replied: "Yeah I...

    Switching to iPhone X....... Maybe

OK, true to some degree. Although there are a growing number of Android One phones out there (e.g. Nokia's 2018 range) which also get quick updates. BTW, Android and iOS updates are not directly comparable. On one hand, Apple does usually supports its devices with software updates for a long...

iPhone X and Android, who is carrying both?

I must be missing something... how do you communicate now with people who don't have iPhones? I assume that even here, no-one only knows iPhone users! :-)

When did iMore stop being an Apple site?

I just stumbled across this thread again and I really can't believe what I'm reading. I will just reply to this post, more or less at random. I see that I'm accused of being a "shill" for the owners of this site of the advertising companies that pay for the upkeep of this site. I actually have...

iPhone X and Android, who is carrying both?

In that case, why not use WhatsApp (for example)?

    Switching to iPhone X....... Maybe

Genuine question - in what way are Pixel phones an outlier compared to other modern Android phones regarding security?

Apple should look to the past as it innovates for the future

Apple should indeed look back. Bring back the headphone socket. Bring back USB A. Bring back HDMI. Get rid of features when your users stop using them. Don't treat your customers with contempt. The article is pretty funny BTW.

    Switching to iPhone X....... Maybe

This point is actually a bit overstated. Sensitive information is usually encrypted using TLS or similar, so an eavesdropper watching your network traffic will not be able to access it. At most, they will be able to tell who you are communicating with (your bank, an online shop, etc), but not...

    Switching to iPhone X....... Maybe

I recently bought a cheap Android phone and it is fully encrypted. I would be surprised if the Pixel 2 was not fully encrypted. Having said that, the importance of all this "investment in the ecosystem" stuff is exaggerated. Few important apps are now paid for (*). As long as you avoid services...

    iPhone X being cancelled?

I agree with you, but I think Apple cares a lot. Even the questionable claims about sales figures, predictions about next year's products and articles about patent applications by people who don't understand patents are good for Apple. They keep Apple at the front of customers' minds even when...

    iPhone X being cancelled?

Yeah but I was asking why people here care enough about a possibly (but not really) misleading headline about a product you probably have no connection with to write 176 (and counting) posts. I don't visit these forums very much so there is often a delay between my posts.

Re: So much for the X being a "flop" These forums are an endless source of entertainment. :-)

    iPhone X being cancelled?

Why do you care so much? Like it or not, Apple are the most prominent manufacturer of smart phones in the world today. There may be some sensationalist articles (both good and bad) about them from time to time, but overall Apple benefit enormously from all the free publicity.

    iPhone X being cancelled?

I think there is far too much sensitivity here about the word "cancelled". The iPhone 10 will be cancelled sooner or later, like every other phone. I assume that most people here are not actually personally involved in the development of the iPhone 10, so why care so much?
