Orange Checkmark when I sign in to my Mac?

I have a 2013 MacBook Pro thats Running OSX Yosemite. Recently after it is in sleep mode and i try to power it back on, my username has an orange checkmark next to it and the background is different from what the background is of my actual desktop. Once i put my password in, it takes me to another screen with my the correct background and makes me enter my password once again in order to log on to my account. Anybody know what it is doing this all of a sudden and how to prevent it from happening?
