Yes I hope so but from all the reviews I’ve read no one has seemed to mention it. I think it takes unique speakers and probably only happens on certain music but it’s really impressive when you hear it!

You will be able to read your external HD from the iPad Pro from what I’ve seen on YouTube anyways. Even an iPad Air 2 with a lightening connector could access flash drives & ssd’s with the apple powered camera adapter dongle! :)

Yes your right, that's pretty much what I've been able to gather. The simplicity of the ipad along with the many ios apps make a compelling case but it's not quite there yet for me.

That's unfortunate, if you do get a new HD another option you could try that is an internet recovery. It sounds simple enough as explained here: How to perform a clean install of Mac OS X using Internet Recovery - Macmint Fingers crossed! :)

I wish you good luck on your upgrade, if the usb method fails hopefully you could follow the link and download the El Capitan version that worked for me.
