New to macs

Hey, I am a tech nerd on a budget and do mostly word processing and research on my computers since I write novels.
I bought a macbook a1181 thinking it was 2009. It was 2007. So I'm trying to use office 365 on it and it is impossibly slow!
I paid 100 dollars for it, so I'm not out a ton but I don't know if I should try to add RAM or just sell it and get a newer model. I only have about 200 to spend.
This will not be my primary computer since I have a Sony duo 13 inch that I use at work.

How much RAM does it have? Based on the research I did, the model you have is VERY upgrade-able, and a RAM upgrade is just about the best upgrade you can do. It's also a fairly easy task, from what I read. Check out this article....
