Why does clear history clear everything including website log-in info?

My wife has a problem with her MacBook Pro. When she hits "clear history", it clears everything, including website log-in info. I don't remember how to set that up for her. I would appreciate any help, thanks.

In Safari's preferences on the Autofill tab... enable Usernames and Passwords and most should be remembered... and on the passwords tab, one can elect to reveal passwords for web sites if memory is failing them at any given moment.

UPDATE: It doesn't work. She still has to manually log-in to all her websites.

If Autofill wasn't on before, there'd be nothing to fall back on... But going forward, there will be.

OK, so when she fills in all her log-ins, and logs out later tonight, she won't have to do it tomorrow? I guess that they go into Autofill, automatically. Thanks.
