Update 5.1.1 to iOS 6+

I have an iPhone 4s with 5.1.1. It is jail broke with greenpois0n. I want to upgrade to 6.1.2 and use evasi0n jailbreak. I can't figure how to do this. I have downloaded custom versions and tried to do it through iTunes and get error 1394. I have tried redsn0w and it says it does not
Support the iOS 6.. Versions. I have tried tiny umbrella. How can I get this updated to ios 6??? What secret am I missing?? Also, I have iPad 2's that I need to do also. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

You can't. That's why you can't figure out a way. Neither the 4s nor the iPad2 have a hack to support upgrading from 5.x to 6.x.

natasftw is correct. I myself am using 5.1.1 on my 4s. Why do you need iOS6?

That's easy. They have an app they want to dl/update that requires iOS 6. They chose the highest available iOS build that's currently jailbreakable. They want both the app and the jailbreak.
