I'm using an old yankees battery and the folder is:

yankees-bundle-com.apple.springboard-.pngs

and placed in

private/var/stash/themes.xxxx

with no luck at all. This is the way I used to do it. I have an iPhone 4 on 4.3.3

Make a folder called Yankees Theme, or something like that. Inside that, make a folder called Bundles. Inside that, make a folder called com.apple.springboard

Put your PNG's inside there, put the whole works in your private/var/stash/themes.xxxx folder and activate in in Winterboard.

Just make sure, if you're using 4.3 or above, and if the theme was created before 4.3 was released, that you fix the image names to be 4.3+ compatible (see here if you need the new names)
