I need help :(

I have a problem with my battery and i want to restore to take it back to apple but last night i was trying to restore it and i turned it off then turn back on to hold the home and plug into the computer all that good stuff. well when it was extracting the data it says the iphone is not allowed for that function or something like that. idk what to do now or is there any other way to restore it. thanks for the help in advance

yes i think thats what it said idk if me updating it will help but im scared if i do i wont be able to jb the new one

If you dont have your shsh's on file for 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 you CANT restore back and are stuck on 4.0

yea well i guess i can wait for a jb to come but it wont let me restore it i just dont want my warranty to expire and im stuck with a messed up battery. idk what else to do. any suggestions on how to restore it?
