3.1.3 spirit

i have a 3gs with 3.1.3 jailbroken with spirit. can i safely just hit the upgrade button to 4.0? I dont care if i lose my jailbreak, i just want the new software without chance of bricking.

Don't hit the upgrade button. Some people w/ jailbroken phones have had some issues. Sync/backup your phone first. Next, restore as a new phone. Then use your backup to restore your apps, contacts, pics and settings.

I agree with lungho. I had the same jailbreak... Did a straight upgrade and torpedoed my data connection.
