Is ITFW the ONLY way to "refresh" the iTunes library?

I have some directories with my MP3's, which I have imported into iTunes. I have not copied the files over into the Itunes music folder, as I prefer to add, delete and edit tags of my files myself.

Is "iTunes Folder Watch" at iTunes Folder Watch the only way to update the listings in iTunes when I add, delete or edit my mp3 files?

At this point, I'm not even sure that it will delete dead links (files I deleted outside of iTunes) or force iTunes to update the tag information inside it if I change something (say genre) myself using mp3tag ...

Any elegant way for us types who prefer to manage our own music collections to "refresh" the iTunes library?

I wish iTunes had a Refresh option

No, iTunes won't auto update dead links, I had to write a program to do that.

If you let iTunes manage music and when you add you make sure to add by dragging the files onto iTunes it will do fine. Not sure about updating the tag info though.
