I think the only way I'll be able to get it is through an Apple Store and the Apple Store nearest me is four hours away. It says online when I do a mock upgrade with money left on my device payment plan that I can go to an Apple Store and pay the remaining balance of the 50% and upgrade but I can't do it online.

Well. Here's hoping Verizon gets it.

Actually I just did the same thing but had a chat with Apple at the same time. The link for upgrading will be available tomorrow and that way you can reserve the phone you want if you choose to pick it up at a store. Or, they will mail you a trade in kit thingie.

Weird - I've never noticed a colour difference with my old white phones and the new ones...

It's not extremely noticeable but as with anything the color won't be as vibrant. Plus I'm sure I notice it because the white screen isn't my fave....this is just something to be nit picky about ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You will spend more time looking at the front than the back. If you prefer the black face, stick a red case on your current phone.
