Why don't I get email notifications when locked?

Email notifications when locked

I am a new owner of an iPhone 5s and cannot find a way to make incoming emails notify me when the phone is locked, this seems such a daft oversight that I must be doing something wrong in the set-up. I see by trawling the net I am not the only one, any clues??

Go to settings then notifications then mail

Welcome to iMore! Go to Settings > Notifications > Mail, make sure the Allow Notitications toggle is on, then select your email account(s). Once you're there you can customize your notifications. In your case, make sure Show on Lock Screen is toggle on.
